What is the difference between hand stretch film and machine stretch film?
Hand stretch film is designed for manual application using an operator, handheld dispenser or extended core. It is lighter and easier to handle, making it suitable for flexible or lower-volume wrapping operations.
Machine stretch film is designed for automatic or semi-automatic pallet wrappers. It is supplied in larger rolls and engineered for controlled, higher pre-stretch levels and consistent wrapping tension.
The two grades should not be treated as interchangeable. Using the correct film for the application improves load stability and reduces tearing, waste and wrapping costs.
Should I choose cast or blown hand stretch film?
Cast stretch film offers excellent transparency, quiet unwinding and consistent thickness. It is usually the economical choice for regular cartons, stable pallets and applications where labels or barcodes must remain visible.
Blown stretch film generally provides greater puncture and tear resistance. It is better suited to heavy, irregular or sharp-edged loads, although it is usually hazier and noisier during application.
The best choice depends on whether clarity, cost or puncture resistance is the main priority.
Is pre-stretched hand film better than conventional hand stretch film?
Pre-stretched hand film has already been stretched during manufacturing. It requires less physical effort to apply, provides more consistent tension and can reduce the amount of film used per pallet. It is a good option for lightweight or regular loads and for improving operator comfort.
Conventional hand film allows the operator to control the stretch and containment force during application. It may be more suitable for heavier, unstable or irregular loads that require stronger tension.
Neither option is universally better—the correct choice depends on load type, wrapping method and target cost per pallet.
How many pallets can one roll of hand stretch film wrap?
The number of pallets per roll varies according to:
- Film width, thickness and roll length.
- Pallet dimensions and load height.
- Number of bottom, middle and top wraps.
- Percentage of film overlap.
- Stretch level applied by the operator.
- Load stability and containment requirements.
For an accurate comparison, buyers should calculate cost per wrapped pallet rather than price per roll. A lighter or higher-performance film may wrap more pallets even when its roll price is higher.
What is the difference between clear, colored and black stretch film?
Clear stretch film keeps products, labels and barcodes visible, making it suitable for general warehouse and logistics applications.
Colored film can be used for product identification, inventory classification, shipment routing or load differentiation. Black or opaque film helps conceal valuable or sensitive products and can reduce visibility during transportation.
For goods stored outdoors, a specially formulated UV-resistant film should be selected. Standard black film should not automatically be assumed to provide long-term UV protection.
Can hand stretch film specifications and packaging be customized?

Is hand stretch film recyclable, and how should it be stored?
Most conventional hand stretch film is made from LLDPE, a recyclable plastic where suitable collection facilities exist. Used film should be kept clean, separated from labels, tape, straps and other contaminants, and sent to an appropriate polyethylene-film recycling stream.
Unused rolls should be stored in their original packaging in a cool, dry indoor area, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture and sharp objects. Proper storage helps preserve cling, stretch performance and roll consistency. Food-contact or recycled-content requirements should be confirmed with the supplier and supported by the relevant compliance documents.
